STANTON F. McHARDY, Ph.D.
B.Sc., Chemistry, Texas Lutheran University, 1990
Dr. McHardy is a Manager in the Synthesis and Process Chemistry section
focusing on pharmaceutical research and development. The focus of his
current work is developing efficient synthesis of organic compounds for
SwRI clients in various areas, as well as building and expanding the
medicinal chemistry and process chemistry capabilities at SwRI to meet
client needs. Dr. McHardy and his SwRI synthesis team have extensive
experience in both the large and small-scale synthesis of a number of
structurally organic compounds. He also has 10 years' experience as a
medicinal chemist and associate director in the neuroscience drug
discovery field. He has extensive experience in leading the chemistry
strategy for drug discovery programs, as well as utilizing
technology-driven medicinal chemistry and computational (in silico)
design for the identification of small molecule compounds with CNS
drug-like properties. Dr. McHardy is also experienced at utilizing and
applying computational chemistry methods and high-speed synthesis
techniques to the design of drug-like compounds. He also has experience
in managing multidisciplinary teams (chemistry, pharmacology, drug
metabolism and toxicology) to deliver high quality clinical candidates
in the areas of addiction, schizophrenia, ADHD and cognition. He also
has experience working with preclinical and clinical management teams in
the preparation of investigator brochures (IBs) and investigational new
drugs (INDs). At Pfizer Global Research & Development, he was
responsible for leading and managing project teams and the medicinal
chemistry strategy for various neuroscience programs.
MIKE CORBETT, Ph.D.
B.A., Chemistry, Rice University, 1993
Dr. Corbett is a senior research scientist in the Synthesis and Process Chemistry section, where he leads a team of scientists in the identification of viable synthetic routes toward small organic molecules of interest for drug discovery and drug development. Dr. Corbett ensures the on-time delivery of target compounds to clients while meeting agreed-to acceptance criteria. He gained seven years of experience in pharmaceutical research and development while working as a process scientist in Process Research and Development at Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) Company. At BMS, he led project teams of approximately 5-10 scientists in the delivery of multi-kilogram quantities of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) to fuel downstream formulation development work, toxicity studies, and clinical studies. Dr. Corbett also led project teams in the development of more efficient synthetic routes toward APIs and has extensive personal experience in the evaluation, design and execution of synthetic routes to small-molecule organic compounds.
