A modeling capability developed at SwRI allows researchers to compare time-frequency characteristics of simulated borehole acoustic waves with those measured in the field. Geophysicists use the information to determine the extent of anisotropy, or axial differentiation, and fractures near the borehole.

Earth Characterization and Geophysical Measurements

The Earth Characterization and Geophysical Measurements group in the Applied Physics Division provides services and research for industrial and government clients. Staff members specialize in seismic, acoustic, and electromagnetic analysis, modeling, and visualization. Scientists deliver effective solutions in areas such as reservoir characterization, cavity detection, and environmental geophysics.
