	Finite element modeling of drip shield and waste package

A variety of structural analyses are conducted by engineers at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), encompassing civil and mechanical structures and solutions in the following specialized areas are offered:

• Seismic analysis of steel and reinforced concrete structures

  • Soil-structure interaction analysis

  • Nonlinear dynamic time history analysis

  • Evaluation of seismic performance

  • Development of fragility curves for different limit states

  • Nonlinear static (pushover) analysis

• Study of impact analysis of reinforced concrete walls

• Evaluation of coupled mechanisms in nuclear-waste containers (e.g., effect of stress corrosion cracking on mechanical failure of the system)

• Studies of nonlinear mechanical interaction between different alloy materials

SwRI engineers study the impact of a simulated aircraft crash on reinforced concrete shear wall.

SwRI conducts seismic fragility assessments of structural and mechanical systems for nuclear facilities to assess seismic risk. This figure shows fragility of a reinforced concrete shear wall.
